With the introduction of non-impact cut sheet printers using laser, ion deposition or LED technology, the requirement has grown since the mid 1980's for bookmaking systems capable of processing output which is printed on cut sheets rather than continuous web.  The sheets printed with multiple images, normally of 3, 4 or 5 to view, are commonly called FOLIOS;  hence the term FOLIO FINISHING.
